Week 38: Miracles🌷🌷 (June 6, 2016)

Monday we went out to lunch as a district because the hermanas were leaving. It was a bitter sweet day because I will miss them but am so excited for their new adventure. After p-day we had a lesson with John. The elders had called us previously and asked if we could participate in the single adult activity at the same time we were going to have a lesson with John. We asked him to meet us at the activity. When we pulled up no one was there. We were so confused but just had our lesson with him and called the elders afterwards. They said that the single adult committee had no key to get into the building so they canceled activity. I thought that was so weird and funny because we were there the whole time and to drive 2 hours to say we have no key and then drive back home seems so crazy! Oh well. We drove around with sister McKee the rest of the evening looking for our members and trying to find former investigators.

Tuesday we did service at the Browns most of the afternoon as we helped them clean out their garage. Our bishop always tells us they are less active because they have word of wisdom issues or they are friends with non members. Well after cleaning out their garage I can say the friends are not the issue. It is so sad to see these awesome families struggling so much. We had dinner at the Goodrich family home. They are an older couple who just got baptized 3 years ago. They had a really cool experience at the manti pageant and that's what started their journey to Mormonism. They fed us fresh clams because he is a local expert at claming. It was so much fun to hear all his stories. One time when he was younger he would go out claming and make his dog run all the clams home and come back for the next bucket full.
He said he would do that all day long and he would have hundreds in his front yard by the end of the day. He almost got arrested as a 12 year old because there is a limit on how many you can clam and he was breaking the law. We had some good laughs with all his funny stories.
We had a lessons with Halden one of our new investigators. We taught him some of the plan of salvation. He was very distracted so we don't finish the lesson. Hopefully we can this week! We also went over to Shann's home to give her a blessing and a lesson. It was a cool experience and we had a good talk after her blessing.

Wednesday we had a lesson Nancy. This sweet old lady really needs to stop eating cheese balls and soda. She had just kinda given up on life and herself. We have been trying to lift her spirits but it's hard to help someone that doesn't want to be helped. We are going to try to go over and get her dressed for church but if not we will see if the sacrament can be brought to her. heather's lesson went great! She was outside waiting for us with her Book of Mormon ready to go! We read a couple chapters and then talked about temples. We are going to try to get her to go with the youth temple trip this month. We really feel she will have a great time. Terry's lesson went really good as well.
We set up another time to meet with him and he picked the subject on baptism. I am so excited!! We had Dinner with Rachel and her husband who flew in from England. He is staying this whole week and she signed up for dinner so we could meet him. We were talking about all the crazy words they use that we don't. They call the trunk of a car a boot and the hood of the car a bonnet. We were laughing so hard the whole time we were eating. It was fun to see her so happy as well.

Thursday was an awesome day! First of all I hit my hump day. I am officially half way done. Time really is flying. At the end of this month I will have a new mission president and probably many more new things. It will be fun to serve with two mission presidents and learn and grow with the mission. We did a lot of service staring out at the old people community center. I love going there every 1st and 4th week in the month. They are always so fun to talk to and they can eat!! Jan one of my members from Powell butte came up to see me on her day off.
She helped serve the elderly and then we went to lunch and just laughed and talked about the "good old times" just kidding. But not she updated me on all my concerts and less actives over there. Kassi is getting ready to get her patriarchal blessing and she is on her way to go through the temple next year! I am so happy and excited for her.
She of course gave me a letter that sister staker wrote to me. She is going to my old stopping grounds. She will be in Hazel dell's stake so I hope she will make friends with sister batey and be a light in her stressed life. From what I hear she isn't doing too hot. We went to the food bank with Jan and passed out food for the rest of the afternoon. Jan wanted to come. to a lesson with us but we only had drop bys. She still took us around to each one. She is such a saint to have come up and spent her day off with me. I am so grateful for the people I have met on my mission that have impacted my life. Jan has been more than a friend or someone I taught before she went through the temple. She has been like a sister/ mission mom to me and all the other missionaries that have Wales through her door. She has definitely been called to watch over the lords missionaries and she has not let him down since. She is an amazing lady!! Lesson with the Wixom's and ward correlation meeting

Friday we had a bomb lesson with the warns. We taught them the whole plan of salvation and we answered so many of brother warns bizarre questions haha it was really funny but really cool! As we pulled up their driveway they had a table and chairs all set up for us and we had the lesson outside in the shade. The spirit was very strong there.
I love love LOVE teaching the plan of salvation. I have been reading in alma and I past the chapter 11 and 12 which talk about the plan of salvation and I love how simply it is explained in such an awesome story. I know I have talked about alma for the second week now but y'all just need to buckle down because alma is amazing and it's a long book! In this part of the book alma and Amulek are teaching wicked and hard hearted people and I can really connect with this area. I do have a testimony of change and I know through the will of God anything is possible. Anyways we had Lunch with Julian Woolley who is a half less active half not. We aren't too sure because she never comes to church but she says she isn't less active. We had a good lunch with her and we keep going to this way cute cafe that know us now and soon are going to know our order and they are going to bring it out when they see us walk in. I am pretty sure we went three times this week with members. Afterwards we had a really awesome lesson with terry. We talked about baptism and put him on date for June 18th. We are so so happy and just praying really hard he can make it to that day. He is so ready and so prepared it will be Satan who gets him and mentally tells him he can't. We stopped by sister Anderson's place to see how she was doing. She started a new job and she loves it. He husband is doing well but she is really nervous for the long road ahead of them.
Our trials will either destroy us based on our agency to allow them to or make us who our father in heaven is someday. What a glorious thing.

Saturday was just a normal day. Not much needed explanation. As for Sunday we had a great day!! We had two investigators show up and I got to sit in primary with one of them the whole time. I forgot how special the spirit is in there and I loved hanging out with all the little ones. Terry had a little episode of the adversary getting to him. We had a good talk and he is back on the path haha it was a bit scary but I knew he was just siking himself out. I really loved our testimony meeting. The spirit was so strong there and you could tell there was a distinct theme throughout the whole meeting. It was on miracles and answers to prayers. I love the scripture in Mormon 9:15 where it talks about miracles a show God is still pouring his miracles down on his children. This verse also reminds me of the one in John 20:29. Although our miracles are not like those in the Book of Mormon and the bible (so grand like parting of waters) I have learned this time period needs a different kind of faith. God still is a God of miracles but it is up to us to notice them. The small miracles that go on in our day to day life when noticed will build our foundation even stronger. My challenge for y'all this week it notice and say a gratitude of prayer after your answers to prayers or the miracles that happen in your life! God loves each one of us and I know that to be true through the miracles and answers to my prayers in my life. Have a wonderful week!!
