- We went on a hike to horse some falls last Monday. It was cold but
really fun. I had been begging them to let us go on a hike because we
have so many near us. We finally did and I just soaked it all in. It
is so green over here still. I am sad so hear the Pingree's have
already been skiing. It sounds like you all are going to have a cold
winter? There is a lot of wind here just like up at Utah state so it's
going to be pretty cold. There is talk that when it rains in the
winter time everything just freezes instantaneously. Sounds like
something to look forward to ha a new kind of Rain....can't wait!
- We went and visited a less active family named the rich's. Maybe
John and kath are related somehow? I don't know if that is a popular
name or not? Anyway they have been struggling and have lots of big
issues they are trying to overcome. One of sister rich's concerns of
not coming to church was she can't wear heals anymore and she dosent
have any flats. We told her we would try to find her some and what do
you know! 4 days later we find two pairs of black flats just her size.
Sounds so dumb but it was a big moment for me and my comp. God knows
all of us and loves us. So crazy haha he really is in the details of
our lives. He cares about his children and with this experience this
week it strengthened my testimony of how he is on our team, helping us
when we least expect it, hearing our conversations and guiding us to
help his children.
Tuesday:
- We have a less active named Steve who said he wasn't going to come
to church until his 95 year old mother passed away because it was too
hard to leave her. The next day she died. I was speechless when he
called us. I honesty don't know what God was planning, but it was very
interesting. Steve has voiced that he is uncomfortable with us going
over and teaching him Haha I was like ouch that hurt. But at the same
time I knew he was on to something. He knows nothing about the church
which amazed me as well. He was baptized in his teens and just feel
away right after that. We decided Steve needs to be taught and that we
would ask for permission to have the elders teach him. Today we went
and service with Steve and the elders. We raked up his leaves, which
sister staker has never done before haha I love first time things! We
introduced the men to each other and the elders set up a return
appointment with him. Steve is a character so I will be praying for
the elders.
- Literally right after that we had a hand off lesson with the same
elders for a man we met that wasn't on our area. His name is Jerry. He
is also quite a character. This was my first time doing a hand off
lesson and I want sure how it was going to work with four missionaries
ha. It worked better than I thought and it was awesome actually. I
learned a lot from that lesson.
- We picked up Joni and went to kassi's. We are reading in 3rd nephi
and talked about praying. She is trying to reconnect with God but
dosent feel worthy to pray. We tried to help her see why we pray and
that feeling worthy isn't a requirement to pray. She is just the
sweetest thing. She was excited to come to church and we are so pumped
to see her there.
- Later we saw Katie and Peter. We had the weirdest discussion with
them. We tried to do the restoration and help them better understand
how God could have visited the americas after he was resurrected. We
somehow got off topic and started discussion the topic of speaking in
tongues and how Christ descended from a cloud multiple times. It was
quite humorous and sister staker and I didn't know what to do. We had
some awesome personal revelation come to us, and we took it as a
challenge to study it out more in depth for him. It just amazes me of
all the things I still don't know yet as well as all the little things
people can't get over or have interpreted differently than us. It's
sad to me that people don't see this world and the bible and other
things the way we do. They made us pie which was so nice of them.
Wednesday:
- We did service with Tamara and the elders again ha I hope they don't
get sick of us too fast. We helped her burn things and cut things down
to help her get ready to sell Christmas trees. It was fun to help her.
- Later we went and saw Artist and Ryan some of our new investigators.
We had a cool conversation with them about some of the restoration and
put our knowledge to the test. We answered a lot of their questions
and painted a pretty good picture of the things we know and the places
in the bible and the Book of Mormon to which we found them. Thanks to
gospel library on our iPads and personal revelation during personal
study. I hope we got them thinking an more curious so that they will
listen to our message we have.
- We saw Jim Davis with Jan and talked about the restoration with him.
He is another less active who dosent know much about the church. He
really didn't know anything about Joseph smith or how we got the Book
of Mormon. I feel like we are teaching a bunch of investigators who
have already been baptized. They jumped the learning steps and now we
are going back and filling in all the gaps. It's fun because there is
no pressure to baptized them, we are just helping them understand and
build their own testimony. Jim loved hearing and reading things he
didn't know. He wants to read the whole Book of Mormon which is
awesome.
- Huda wanted a priesthood blessing because she has been going through
so much lately. We had an amazing spiritual experience with her so
much that the Holy Ghost prompted us to put her on date to be
baptized. She agreed. We were so stoked.
- We saw the Adams and talked about testimonies. I love their family
and I am going to miss them. We talked about the importance or
testimonies and how they are knowledge and power from God. How they
are recorded in heaven and how testimonies are said as a mother
washing away of sins. It was an awesome lesson.
Thursday:
Happy thanksgiving!!!!!!
- remember how I like clouds mom...haha guess what I found in my
personal study. clouds represent divinity or spirituality ha thought
you would like that. Jesus traveled in clouds. No wonder he makes
clouds so beautiful.
- Pamala called us (a less active) she has been MIA for awhile and she
said she would come to Jan's with us for thanksgiving dinner.
- We dropped by Maile's home and shared a spiritual thought with them.
We basically went around all day sharing gratitude spiritual thoughts
to all the people we tried to see.
- We went over with the elders and played with Huda's kids at the
park. We had a great time afterwards helping Huda bake for
thanksgiving.
- Brother Collins wanted us to come meet his seventh day Adventist
family members. They had soups and salad for thanksgiving which is so
funny because it is totally brother Collins to not do a traditional
meal and have healthier things instead. I still got to eat pumpkin pie
thought there haha
- Jan's delicious dinner was beyond amazing. I still miss all my
traditional food but we were so grateful for all the time and work and
effort she spent on making us a homey meal for thanksgiving. We picked
up Pamela and introduced her to Jan and Joni. I think she had fun. I
sure did!
- Then we had a Missionary get together at the wilson's which is a
family in the butler creek Ward. They invited our district over for
pie and games. It was fun. I was so tired thought it was hard to play
the games haha I am a total missionary. Once 9:30 hits my body just
shuts down.
I am so grateful for everything God has given me. This beautiful place
to live, my family, awesome companions but most importantly I am so
grateful for this gospel and the knowledge, perspective and strength I
have because of it.
Friday:
- Everyone go look up the parable of the last super in the institute
manual. I totally fell in love.
- weekly planning was long but very effective. We are continually
pushing ourselves to become better.
- Mary is one of our investigators who has been investigating the
church for years now. She loves daily quote books and we thought it
would be fun to make a homemade one to help her prepare for baptism.
It was so much work but it was worth it. She has to get oral surgery
so we have to push back her baptism. We ran some flowers and this book
over to her. She opened up and we had a great conversation with her.
It was a big step in our relationship with her.
- Sister hogan is the bomb. I have felt the need to go over and visit
with her and she helped us so much with inspiration to our lesson that
we have to teach for the youth on 5th Sunday. The Holy Ghost rocks,
because I needed her advice!
Saturday:
- We Heart attacked a family whose son was deploying this week. Sister
staker and I have been killing it with our daily service
opportunities. When we do service they make our days so much better
and crazy to think that my attitude is better as well. She dosent know
this but I set this goal so I would be more fun to be around and not
such a grouch haha it's working!!!
- We did some more service for the Adams who are moving. Talk about 5
years worth of dust and 10 years worth of wrapping and boxing things.
It was gross and still so much fun. So glad I am not moving and I have
decided I am never going to move.....ever. It's horrible. Sister Adams
was the one who gave us the black flats for sister rich! She didn't
even know what she was doing when she offered them to us. It was again
a tender mercy.
- We stopped by Kim's house to meet her new roommate and give Kim some
flowers. Her roommate wasn't home so we chatted and shared a spiritual
message. We made her laugh which was big because she has been mad at
us haha nothing new.
- IT WAS JANS BIRTHDAY!! we made her some flowers and dang did I do a
good job. Thanks to mom though, she trained me well. They were her
favorite kind of flowers....cough cough Holy Ghost. We also just
happened to by her favorite chocolate....cough cough the spirit rocks.
We were able to share a spiritual message with her and reminisce
through some of her old pictures. She is so awesome.
Sunday:
- Kassi came to church and so did Mary and the elders got Steve to come.
- No one told us we were teaching gospel principles class so we just
winged it haha it was so funny. Good thing sister staker and I had a
comp study on this random topic one day. So we were half
prepared....(:
- Youth 5th Sunday was so awesome. We had prepared so much for it and
I think we did a dang good job. We had lots of fun interactive
activities and we just killed it haha go us!!!!
- I had an aw-ha moment this week of how I can better myself so I set
some goals of improvement and I can't wait to keep learning and
changing I LOVE IT!
Thanks so much squad for all your support and prayers!! I love reading
all y'alls emails they are so awesome! Keep up the good work! Keep up
the gratitude attitudes and keep spreading the gospel! You don't have
to change who you are to be an instrument in gods work. You just have
to open your mouth and listen to the Holy Ghost. It's so awesome! Also
anything can relate to the gospel. Sister taker and I have been doing
this a lot in the car when we need a laugh or two. First random thing
that comes to your head relate it to the gospel haha it's so fun and
often really funny!!
❤️ Sister Richards
